People approach me in different ways when they would like to commission me to "do a piece". Most often, they will email me or speak to me at a class or event.
We then discuss the subject matter, size, the time frame for completion, and cost. The client then sends their photograph to me, either by mail, or email. Once the photograph is in-hand, I begin sketching in the forms roughly, placing features or objects. Then, gradually, I work in the details, smoothing the tonal qualities, and achieving the look and feel of skin, fabrics, or textures. A portrait can take anywhere from 6-50 hours to complete, depending on the criteria. Larger pieces are, of course, more time consuming. I never rush a piece as I am very committed to quality and my own standards of perfection. It is important to me that the client feel the mood of the picture, or the soul of the person in the portrait.
Once the piece is completed, the artwork is delivered. Clients usually do the framing themselves.
Cost for the charcoal drawings range with size and content from $250 for a smaller piece, to $1,000+ for a larger and more detailed piece. I ask for a 50 percent deposit when I begin the drawing. When the drawing is completed, I scan it and email a preview to the client for their "okay". The remaining 50 percent is charged thereafter and the piece is delivered. I accept PayPal, and credit card payments.
*Note: These prices are for charcoal drawings only. Oil paintings and giclees of much of the art you see on this site can also be purchased or commissioned. Prices for giclees range from $100-$1,250. Any piece can be enhanced for an additional fee.
